Q: I live in the neighbourhood and I have questions/concerns/suggestions. How can I get more information? Who can I talk to?
A: We would like to hear from you! You can send an email to office@beachunited.ca or phone us at 416-691-8082.
Q: What will the vacant land on the south side of your site be used for?
A: The congregation of Beach United Church is still determining what to do with that space. No decisions have been made.
Q: This is a big project. Who is paying for it?
A: The congregation of Beach United Church is paying for the project. Beach United was created by the amalgamation of two local congregations: Kew Beach United and Bellefair United. After the amalgamation, the Bellefair church building was sold. The monies from that sale are financing this project, with some monies set aside to support Beach United's "wider ministries".
Q: When are the church services in the new buildng?
A: You are welcome to join us for worship every Sunday at 10:30am. We also have special services and activities throughout the year. You can contact our church office at 416-691-8082 or office@beachuc.com. The website for Beach United Church is www.beachunitedchurch.com.
Q: It's too bad that the old building was torn down - couldn't you have saved it?
A: The building was much bigger than we needed, required major repairs and was not at all energy efficient. By demolishing just the south portion of our building and redesigning the north portion, we are preserving much of the original structure while making it a much more flexible, energy efficient space.
Q: Will the building be "green"?
A: We are striving to be as green as possible. By renovating, instead of demolishing and rebuilding, we are taking a more environmentally friendly approach. Having a smaller building means we have a smaller ecological footprint. We have installed energy efficient windows, proper insulation, and efficient heating and cooling systems. These are all big improvements over our original building, which was not energy efficient at all. We will also be installing solar panels on the roof.
Q: What about the trees on the property?
A: An arborist has surveyed the trees on our site, and we submitted a plan to the city that specifies how the trees will be protected. We will plant three replacement trees.
Q: Will I be able to rent space in your new building?
A: Our new Beach United Church offers lots of flexible space for performances, community groups, worshops, cooking classes and other functions. We are still developing our rental plan. If you are interested in renting space, please contact the Beach United office at office@beachunited.ca or 416-691-8082.
